Using Google Ad Words

Apparently, there is a new service offered by Google.  At least it’s new to me.  Let me explain.  I’ve been doing things on the internet since the original DOD days teaching X25 protocols and using really old things like Prodigy and private bulletin boards.  These were the life bllod of a technician for downloading drivers, software updates, etc.  I even worked as VP Sales and Marketing with the tech department under my wing for several years at a small Novell Distributor based in Mountain View selling something called the Courier, a very robust email system which eventually became known as Microsoft Outlook.  But I digress.  I just set up an Ad Words campaign using what I preach herein for my local website for website design and traffic work.  I’ve had many campaigns and have several accounts.  I just received this email.

Hello from Google!
My name is XXXX and I’m writing to you on behalf of the AdWords Welcome Team here at Google. I noticed you hadn’t yet taken advantage our free AdWords Welcome Service, so I’d like to make sure you still have the chance to call us in the next 38 days.  You can still call us at 1-866-2-XXXXXX, Monday to Friday from 9am EST to 8pm EST. Please have your Customer ID at hand when you call, as you will be asked for this. If you don’t want to call, you can email us using this form.

How will you benefit? . I want to show you how to improve on your ads’ results by:
helping you understand how AdWords works;
giving you tips and suggestions to improve your ads;
helping with any day to day questions you might have on things like billing or technical aspects of your account.
This service is offered by Google only for your first 6 weeks with AdWords, so call soon! We’re looking forward to working with you.

I heartily encourage all of you to make the call should you get it.  They will try to sell you stuff so be forewarned, but it’s your chance to ask any question you want.  Like how they rank you, what can you do to be more visible, how can you limit the amount of money you spend.  Here’s the bottom line, Google changes the way it does business and how you rank and where you’ll show up in searches quite often.  Just because you heard something that someone swears it the honest truth does not mean it’s still the truth.  Find out as much as you can.  If you find out something cool, come make a comment here for the rest of us, ok?

    I got one of these emails recently. I did a search for “free AdWords Welcome Service” but couldn’t find anything online explaining what the heck it is that I am supposed to be taking advantage of. Guess I will just have to make the call to find out. Thanks for the post!
