Local Searches – Step 1

I have been telling you how great local searches are.  here’s some how to.  First, you need a Google email account.  http://www.google.com  Across the top, it says Gmail, click on it.  If you don’t have an account, click on the right where it says Create an account and get one.  Otherwise, login to Gmail.   You’ll see your email account come up.  Once logged in, we want to find Google Places.  It’s not really right there to find it.  Click on Google home way down at the bottom right, that brings up a new window. Then scroll down to the bottom, find Advertising Programs.  No we’re not doing Adwords.  Scroll down again and find Google Places.  Finally!  Add this to your favorites so you don’t have to go through that again.  Now you have a dashboard.  There’s a link to Add Another Business.  Or you can go here http://www.google.com/local/add.   All this is totally free.  It’s based upon your actual physical location or locations.  Enter all your businesses and locations.  You will have to verify all these.  Only you or someone at your home or office can do this.  For the first one, Google may let you take a verification code and call you on the phone.  Most of the time, you’ll have to wait until you receive the verification in the mail.  This is the first step to all this, so get this done and sign up for my emails on the right so you get notified when the next installment comes up.  You will be amazed at the results.  Most marketers don’t even know all this exists.  Comment if you’d like.

Easier to get there by going to google.com/places.. because I did not see the link at the location you mentioned. Regardless, I am all setup now. Look forward to continuing and seeing where this gets me. Thanks for the tip!!

Hi Barry, you’re absolutely right on getting to places. I was making sure people had their gmail accounts. I think most people in internet marketing do. Thanks for the comments.
